Gathering Petals in Winter

HIPPIE ART:  Abstract slices of 'orange' within a ring of dark red and blue ceramic.  Background is mottled blue and green.  Colors of the 'plate' are platinum, gold, and bright orange.  There is a central 'flower' surrounded by 'petals.'

The contrasting/dissonant colors are very sixties/seventies.  Trust me:  I was there.

This is the sort of thing we used to love:  a red  flower with a blue center carved in "sandstone", surrounded by a white and green ring, surrounded by an INTENSELY purple background with weird little chains in it.  Silly, but bright.

Eden Snake

This "clay" image---greenish gold on brilliant blue, with a pattern of leaves and coils running through it---made me think of the snake in the garden, especially given that little red eye in the corner:  kind of scary but also (I think this because I like snakes) kind of cute, with a pug nose. 

A very interesting texture, I think (?)

Blue and gold "bamboo" with central cleft in white, on a solid black background.   It reminded me immediately of the K'un Hexagram.

Mixed Media with Sand Dollars.

ABSTRACT DIGITAL ARTWORK. With this one, I was really going for a native American effect.  I really love the combination of pale purple, blue, and lavender and the way the image appears to be laid out carefully on a backing of blue cloth, but otherwise not bound together in any way.

Ramble On, Rose. (A Tribute to the Grateful Dead.)

ABSTRACT DIGITAL ARTWORK.  Yes, it's time for another tribute to the Grateful Dead.  I've come to the conclusion that it's just not possible to have too many.

This is---take it from one who was there--an AUTHENTICALLY Sixties/Seventies hippie-art style image, a "leather" rose (because leather was a big deal then) in rose pink, petal pink, and red, with a golden center, and tie-dye effects all around.  The corners are a very pretty purple, the color of encroaching twilight.  Somewhere I'm pretty sure Jerry Garcia is smiling down at me.

Firefly Evenings in Carolina.

ABSTRACT DIGITAL TILE.  An image in digital leather:  purple embossed flowers and a column of glowing fireflies---we actually called them "lightning bugs", but "fireflies" is more fey and poetic--- on either end.   A serrated column of deeper purple (more aubergine, less violet) runs down the center, bordered with gold; the outer color is blue-violet.  It evokes memories of certain late nights back in the Sixties when the children in the neighborhood were allowed to stay out late and play unsupervised.  Now you can't even go walking alone in my  old neighborhood in my little Carolina milltown.   And I think the DDT they used to spray in the air killed off most of the fireflies. 

Ceramic Egg.

EASTER EGG CLIPART.  A pale violet egg made from digital "ceramic."  Concentric rings in pale blue and a deeper purple.  The background is black; the image is in a brushed florentine frame in pale violet metal.
