I hope everyone in America had a glorious 4th of July. I didn't do much about it this year because---okay, this is pretty embarrassing---my hamster died and I was sad. Yes, I said 'hamster.' Yes, I said 'died' (they only live a couple of years, so in hamster terms he was well stricken in years). YES, I SAID 'SAD.' Rodents, especially this one (a long-hair hamster), are incredibly cute and cuddly, and extremely entertaining to watch.
This one never got an official name, but he was affectionately addressed as "Fluffybutt" and "Rufflybuns" due to his physical characteristics (he actually looked as if he were wearing a couple of layers of petticoats). He was blond with bluish streaks. I miss his little twitchy nose and the way he slept curled up with his paws showing <<<< SNIFF>>>>. I cried while Nick did the necessary in terms of disposing of the remains. (I'm not sure how and I don't want to know).
Anyway, RIP little Dude.
Later I considered my neglect of my "Rumcove" topic. In reality, Rumcove---my best friend for so many years---gets a mentioned in a lot of postings that aren't specifically about him, but on the other hand, I haven't written much that's specifically about him. I've been reading lately about a topic he and I have often discussed---English accents, specifically his estuary one. It seemed as good a place to start as any.
