Remember the band Enigma? Yes? No? Thanks to them, there was a sudden upsurge in interest in Gregorian chants (which they incorporated into their particular version of alternative music. Along with a tribute to the Marquis de Sade ("Sadeness"), featuring some lovely Latin chanting as background, there was also "Mea Culpa."
Finally, there was a beautiful tribute to Maria Callas, with a choice bit of her singing worked in.
As I explain here, these were songs I'd have gone on liking much longer if I'd never seen the videos. No offense to the videos----they were fine, as videos go---but they didn't match up with my own decidedly more numinous imaginings. Which is my whole quarrel with the video music industry. When they work, they work. But when they don't they can ruin the whole song. Read more here....
