ABSTRACT DIGITAL ARTWORK. The name is a reference to a poem called "Patterns" from an Amy Lowell poem (I think Amy Lowell) I read in my teens. It made an impression on me against my will, as I thought it sentimental. But it was also deeply sexual, which back when I was 15 was something I didn't encounter very often. The poem is about a lady who is walking round one of those ornate formal gardens in an ornate patterned gown of pink and silver, struggling to keep her grief at a distance. She has just been informed that her lover, Lord someone or other, was killed in a battle. As soon as I saw this, I thought of that poem for the first time in over 20 years. It's not a great poem by any means, but it does manage to touch the raw edge of grief.
The pattern is shimmering scalloped ribbons in dusty pink or rose on a background of silver.
