My husband suggested the idea behind this photo essay.
I asked him to suggest a subject and---it being a grey and melancholy
day (we do have them in Florida)---he came up with the theme.
I was concerned that I wouldn't find enough Creative Commons
photographs on the theme, but honestly I was spoiled for choice, and it
was extremely hard to choose. But after looking through many, many,
many, I decided that these beautiful images were the most evocative and
diverse.

What a great cross section of the country "closed for the Winder." Beautiful pictures evocative of loneliness and emptiness. Beautiful!! Thanks for visiting me!

These are all great, but for some reason I am drawn to #9. I'm not sure why either? Happy TT :)

What fantastic photos and what a great theme for TT! It really would be fun to be free to drive and fly around and take such marvelous photos of places and things...

What a neat idea for a TT-13! Since I am originally from NH - many things WOULD close for the season.
Happy TT-13!

Great pictures! I've always thought there is something a little sad about things that are closed for the winter. When I see the "closed for the winter" sign at a little ice cream place called The Dairy Fair, I always get a little melancholy. These pictures are charming, though.

It's always sad for me when things close for a season, especially all the fun places we enjoy in the summer.
Great TT!

Thank you for these. There's something deeply sad in many places that are closed for the season. But then the colors of 1, 3, and 5 all seem ready and waiting for warmer weather. And those like 12 are peaceful rather than sad. :)
