Not only love can break one. Losing a friend, losing a pet, losing a job, or losing hope can do it too. As Paul Simon so rightly said: "Losing love is like a window in your heart/Everybody sees you're blown apart/Everybody hears the wind blow...." Yes, they do.
These Flickr photographers have made art of the broken heart. There's a strange beauty in the brokenness portrayed in each of these photographs.
They all look painful though, don't they? Yes, they all look painful: torn asunder, shattered, cut in two, crumbling, dripping, cracked, broken in half, punctured, ripped, bruised, riven, shredded, or torn.
How does your heart look when it breaks, or does it just depend?

I hope taking these pictures was cathartic for the photographers. They make me feel just a bit sad. I guess that's to be expected when dealing with broken hearts. ;)

Yes, very painful indeed.
Thanks for stopping by my site. To answer your question, no, none of those photos were Second Life. They were all mother nature. But some of those Second Life pictures you introduced us to a few weeks ago sure came close to reality. I do 3D art using Bryce among other programs and sometimes it's really hard to tell and it fools people.

I loved this. It filled my cup with sadness for the day, but it was a beautiful, tacit, parade of pain.

what a creative idea! I like the mosaic one!
Posted by: MamaArcher | March 13, 2008 at 08:53 AM
I like number 4. It's broken, yes, shattered really, but you can tell that someone has tried awfully hard to put it back together.
Posted by: Babystepper | March 13, 2008 at 09:11 AM
What a wonderful theme--and so interesting all the different ways the photographers interpreted it!
Posted by: Darla | March 13, 2008 at 09:12 AM
It's really interesting to see all the different interpretations.
