Limousine Conservatives.

The Gun-Toting Liberal (that card-carrying member of both the ACLU and the NRA)  points out that while Republicans can't seem to stop talking about Hollywood/Limousine Liberals and how Sean Penn needs to shut up, they make whatever use of Hollywood types (when they can find any) to promote their own causes.

I know I can’t be the only one to note this interesting trend from the Right to bash and bash Hollywood again and again, yet, turn to that very same town, time after time, to find their leaders for the highest offices in the land. That’s right — Hollywood; the same “Hollywood” that furnished .... Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) and... President Ronald Reagan (R), and now, if many Republicans have their way, actor Fred Thompson (R).... 

Yet, the very moment Sean Penn opens his mouth, the Right....   They scream about how “Hollywood actors need to shut their mouths”, and how they should stay out of politics and “just act”. “What does Hollywood know about politics anyway?”, they scream as they simultaneously reach to Tinseltown for their answers. I’m not bashing the Right, I’m simply pointing out a FACT....

Good point and one I didn't articulate to myself when I was fretting over articles referring to environmental warrior/rich Hollywood lady Laurie David as a "limousine liberal."  (I bet if you tallied up the number of liberals riding in limousines and the number of conservatives, the conservatives in limousines would outnumber the liberals by a substantial majority).  I'm not going to say what I think of Ronald Reagan since conservative Christopher Hitchens said it better at Slate (google it yourself if you want to know); and Schwarzenegger is a Republican I kind of like.   But Fred Thompson?  Seriously?  Why?
